There is a version of this story where I tell you that Kate and Jaime's wedding weekend was perfect. That everything went according to plan, that the June heat cooperated, that every detail landed exactly where it was supposed to.
That version is not accurate.
What is accurate is that Kate and Jaime's wedding weekend was one of the most beautiful weddings Peony has ever been a part of. That their guests had no idea what it took to get there. And that the distance between those two things — between what happened behind the scenes and what the couple and their guests experienced — is the story I actually want to tell.
The weekend: three days, three venues, 98 degrees
Kate and Jaime's wedding weekend took place June 19 through 21, 2026, across three venues on Anna Maria Island: Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub for the Friday welcome dinner, The Grand Pavilion at The Sandbar for the Saturday wedding, and Beach House Waterfront Restaurant for the Sunday farewell brunch.
All three venues are part of the Beachside Hospitality family, which made the logistics of coordinating a full weekend significantly smoother than a three-venue weekend with unrelated properties. The events teams know each other. The standard of food and service is consistent across all three. And from a planning perspective, working across all three properties in a single weekend is one of the most seamless multi-venue experiences available on Florida's Gulf Coast.
It was also, for the record, 98 degrees. The hottest weekend of the summer on Anna Maria Island. That detail is relevant to everything that follows.
Friday — the welcome dinner at Mar Vista
Friday evening brought guests to Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub on the north end of Longboat Key — a waterfront venue nestled into Buttonwood Bay, beneath 100-year-old Buttonwood trees strung with lights. For guests flying in from out of town, it was the first moment the weekend started to feel real.
It also started with a problem.
The linens that arrived for the welcome dinner tables were wrong. The color bore no resemblance to what had been selected. Rather than spend the evening working around them, we pulled the linens off the tables entirely. Underneath were gorgeous natural wooden tables. The reveal ended up being more beautiful than the original design would have been.
That is, genuinely, how the weekend started. A linen crisis that became a better tablescape. Kate never knew it happened.
The welcome dinner itself was everything a Friday evening before a wedding should be: relaxed, intimate, full of people who had traveled to be together. The water views, the old Florida atmosphere, the food — Mar Vista set a tone for the weekend that Saturday had to live up to.
It did.
Saturday — the wedding at The Grand Pavilion at The Sandbar
The Grand Pavilion at The Sandbar is one of the most recognizable wedding venues on Florida's Gulf Coast. The ceremony takes place directly on the white sand beach with the Gulf of Mexico behind the couple. The open-air pavilion reception space sits steps away, surrounded by sea oats and native grasses, with unobstructed water views in every direction.
Saturday was also, to be precise, 98 degrees. And three things went wrong before the ceremony even started.
What Kate and Jaime's guests experienced
A ceremony that started slightly later than scheduled, for a reason nobody mentioned. A reception that felt seamless, energetic, and completely theirs. A saxophonist who didn't just perform but genuinely partied with the guests all night. A sparkler exit that was, despite everything, perfectly timed. A dance floor that stayed full until the last song.
What actually happened
The first look ran ninety minutes behind. Scheduled for 2:00 PM. Kate was ready at 3:30 PM. The entire back half of the day's timeline depended on that first look happening within a reasonable window of its scheduled time. The wrong chairs arrived for the reception. Caught early. Sorted within the hour. Correct chairs delivered and set before a single guest walked into the space.
The trolleys transporting guests got caught in island traffic from an accident. Anna Maria Island has one main road in. A traffic incident meant the guest trolleys ran late. The decision was made to push the ceremony back thirty minutes and adjust the evening timeline accordingly. No announcement. No visible scramble. Just a quiet recalibration that kept the day feeling intentional.
None of these three things appeared in the highlight reel. None of them reached Kate and Jaime. That is not an accident. That is the job.
The decision that defined the night
Kate and Jaime came into the weekend with one clear priority: they wanted to dance. They wanted a full, uninterrupted dance floor and a reception that felt like a party from the moment it started.
With the timeline running compressed from the first look delay and the trolley situation, the traditional cake cutting at the end of the reception would have eaten directly into that dance floor time. So we moved it.
The cake cutting became Sunday brunch. The dessert table was already planned as part of the Sandbar dinner spread, so the logistics were clean and guests had late night slider bites and something sweet. They didn’t even miss cake cutting! What it bought Saturday night was exactly what Kate and Jaime had asked for: more dancing, more music, more party.
That pivot is a small thing in the abstract. In practice, it is the difference between a couple who got the wedding they asked for and a couple who got a version of the wedding modified by a timeline that wasn't working. Guests walked from cocktail hour into a finished reception space without having watched it happen.
The 17-minute flip was not improvised on the day. It was planned, rehearsed in the timeline, and built into the vendor coordination calls the week before. That is how invisible labor actually works.
Sunday — the farewell brunch at Beach House
Sunday was easy. After everything Saturday took, Sunday was genuinely, beautifully easy.
The Beach House Waterfront Restaurant sits on the south end of Anna Maria Island in Bradenton Beach, right on the Gulf. The Sunset Deck — 840 square feet of climate-controlled outdoor event space with unobstructed Gulf views — was the perfect venue for a Sunday morning that nobody wanted to end.
The brunch spread was everything a farewell morning should be: an omelet station, a pancake bar, a full buffet, a full bar. The tablescape was styled with natural tan shells scattered across the tables — a simple detail that felt exactly right for an island morning. Two speeches. A full bar. Guests in no particular hurry to leave.
And then the cake cutting happened.
With the whole room gathered, Kate and Jaime cut their wedding cake on Sunday morning surrounded by the same people who had danced with them the night before. It was quieter than a Saturday night cake cutting. More present. The room was actually watching. It became a moment rather than a formality, and it was one of the most genuinely joyful things I saw all weekend.
