A Sarasota Wedding Full of Heart: Liz & Edgar at the Powel Crosley Estate

Powel Crosley Estate · Seagate, Sarasota, FL · Photography by Fantasmic Photography

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings that feel like they were made for exactly the two people standing at the altar. Liz and Edgar's July wedding at the Powel Crosley Estate, the stunning historic waterfront mansion known as Seagate nestled along Sarasota Bay, was absolutely the latter.

From the moment we began planning together, it was clear that this wedding was going to be layered with meaning. Navy blues and rich coppers set the tone for an evening that felt both elegant and deeply personal, and the details Liz and Edgar chose told their story in a way that left almost no dry eyes in the house, including mine.

The Setting: Powel Crosley Estate, Sarasota

If you've never been to the Powel Crosley Estate, also known as Seagate, let me paint the picture for you. A Mediterranean Revival mansion built in 1929 along the shores of Sarasota Bay, it is the kind of venue that makes guests forget to look at their phones. Spanish tile, arched loggias, a round tower you can see from the water, a hand carved stone entrance, and a sweeping lawn that opens straight to the bay. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful wedding venues on Florida's Gulf Coast, and it was the perfect backdrop for everything Liz and Edgar had planned.

The ceremony took place on the lawn as the sun made its way toward the bay, opening with a detail I have never had at a wedding before: a family friend played trumpet live as guests took their seats, filling the lawn with sound before a single vow was spoken. The reception carried guests through the grand interior rooms and out onto the lit patio, where string lights from Affairs in the Air stretched above them all evening long.

The Detail That Stopped Time

Here is the moment I want you to know about.

As Liz and Edgar's daughter made her way down the aisle as flower girl, a recording of her voice played softly overhead. Their little girl, the heartbeat of this blended family, announcing the moment in her own words, in her own voice, for her dad to hear as she walked toward him. Edgar's reaction said everything that needed to be said.

And then, at first kiss, someone slipped a cowboy hat onto Edgar's head, a nod to his Mexican heritage and a little surprise, a flash of joy and laughter after the tears. He wore it straight through the reception, and honestly it was one of the most perfect transitions I have ever seen at a wedding: from the most tender moment of the day right into pure celebration.

These are the details that no one puts on a Pinterest board. These are the details that make a wedding real.

The Design: Navy, Copper, and Every Detail Intentional

Liz had a vision, and she executed it beautifully. The color palette of deep navy and warm copper ran through everything, from the pocket napkin folds on every place setting to the custom menus that doubled as keepsakes. Every guest found a die-cut nameplate at their seat, and the tables were dressed in cylindrical vases with soft candlelight and lush florals from Bee Ridge Florist in deeper blues and whites, pulling the palette all the way through to the centerpieces.

The photos, bright and true to color and full of life, were captured by Fantasmic Photography, whose work perfectly matched the warmth and energy of the evening.

The Gelato Cart, the Coffee Cart, and the Joy of a Summer Wedding in Florida

Planning a July wedding in Florida means thinking about your guests' comfort, and Liz and Edgar did not miss. Mattison's Catering coordinated both a gelato cart and a coffee cart for the evening, the coffee cart fittingly branded Café à la Carte, appearing on the patio just around sunset and instantly becoming the happiest spot at the party. On a warm Florida summer night, cold gelato and good coffee are the kind of unexpected touches guests talk about for years.

The Gift That Made Him Speechless

Before the ceremony, Liz surprised Edgar with a custom pocket watch, a gift he didn't see coming, and one that he'll carry with him for the rest of his life. There is something about a pocket watch as a wedding gift that feels both timeless and intentional, and paired with everything else about this day, it fit perfectly.

Dancing Under a Stormy Sky

I'll be honest with you: as your planner, one of my jobs is to watch the weather so you don't have to. On July 13th, there were storms moving around us all evening. I gave Liz a heads up that the sky might look a little dramatic, and do you know what she said?

"We are so happy, we could have danced in the rain for all I cared."

That is the energy of a couple who is exactly where they are supposed to be. And as it turned out, not a single drop fell on us. The storms went around, the string lights stayed dry, and Liz and Edgar danced on their patio under a sky that looked like a painting.
